It would be very easy to say a 3-1 win was a romp for Guildford but that was far from the truth. The first half started with City with the low sun behind them but failed to use it to an advantage. But we should have had a clear penalty as City grew into the game. After a long spell of City pressure Eli scored to give us the lead, as the half went on City pressed and pressed but got caught by a deflected long shot at the break. The second half and City were 2nd best for long spells and it wouldn't have been a shock if Hayes had taken the lead, but despite their dominance they rarely troubled our keeper. The game was won by two free kicks on the edge of the box. Bobby Webb was the scorer of the first curling it in around the wall into the ungettable space in the goal. For the 3rd goal their keeper moved his wall and himself to stop a duplicate but got caught by a wicked deflection to make it 3-1. Hard on Hayes but how often have found we should have got something out of a game only to come home empty handed.
